It wasn’t that long ago that the Bluffton, South Carolina was a sleepy little town that you passed through on the way to Hilton Head Island. How the times have changed! Today, Bluffton is a vibrant, growing community that caters to all demographics and lifestyles. Westward (and Eastward) Ho!

The natural beauty of the Low Country and the proximity to Hilton Head first attracted the Sun City community on the western edge of the town, and the area began to grow. At the same time, developers, local residents, and newcomers realized the opportunity to enjoy the resort atmosphere of Hilton Head while living in the lush landscape of the mainland.

The Highway 278 corridor between Sun City and the bridge to Hilton Head began to blossom. Soon, new communities such as Colleton River Plantation, Palmetto Bluff, Belfair, and Berkeley Hall opened complete with championship golf courses, luxury homes, and exquisite amenities. Suddenly, Moss Creek Plantation was not the only private, gated community on the mainland. Shops, restaurants, and new local businesses began to open and flourish, and the town of Bluffton was reborn as one of the most desired residential locations on the east coast.
Historic Charm

Despite the local population and economic growth, much of Bluffton remains undisturbed with thick woodlands and expansive marshes. Downtown Bluffton still retains its unique Southern charm with its Antebellum homes, quaint shops, and historic churches.

Bluffton is still in a state of growth. The University of South Carolina recently opened a new campus on the edge of town, and the Technical College of the Low Country is also opening a branch campus. New shopping and entertainment centers are also in the planning stages, and Highway 278 is expanding to four lanes to meet the increased traffic demand.
