When Captain William Hilton first sited the Island in 1663, little did he know that this strip of land would become the private oceanfront community of Port Royal Plantation. In 1862, Union troops first came ashore at this same point to set up camp and establish the blockade of Savannah. To this day, Port Royal Plantation still contains many landmarks and artifacts from the Civil War.

Port Royal Plantation is actually a combination of two distinct communities. The resort itself is home to over 2,000 villas and the Westin resort. Residents of Port Royal Plantation enjoy a separate security gate that leads to magnificent oceanfront homes, golf course homes, and swim and tennis club.
